Tate is able to say it verbally more than Janey, and it does sound specifically like she is saying you need to be in a certain place, and you saw that same look of relief and delight when you complied. I can imagine if the world seems pretty incomprehensible, having one of the biggest part of their worlds, us, right where they "should" be would be a big relief. It's interesting about the appliances. Janey has been obsessed with the coffeemaker for years, and when she was able to, she expressed fear that she had broken it when Tony let her turn it on. I think that's an upsetting appliance because it's not on very often---just one or two times a day for a short period. Some day, we have to get Tate and Janey together!Suzannehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08240262747073351481noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5441989712918579133.post-86235979478512997082013-09-11T22:31:46.506-04:002013-09-11T22:31:46.506-04:00This IS interesting - I thought it was just a Tate...This IS interesting - I thought it was just a Tate-ism that Tate does something similar, I didn't associate it with Autism since Autism is a new diagnosis for us and Tate has multiple diagnoses so I don't always know where to attribute behavior... but she gets obsessed too with me turning on the lights when she wants them on, and she loves to direct me to go to certain places and do certain things "Mommy sit on the stairs, mommy get up", etc. And she looks visibly relieved and delighted when I do these things. She also hates appliances to be on, like the washing machine or the dishwasher, which we've never understood since she doesn't have sensory issues or sensitivity to loud noises...but given your observation, maybe she is just saying these things should be off, that is their usual/more common state, so that's how they should be.sarahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17542230920621444188noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5441989712918579133.post-32241052980543257512013-09-11T21:53:49.303-04:002013-09-11T21:53:49.303-04:00This is very interesting because I did take it lit...This is very interesting because I did take it literally to mean she wanted to snuggle. It's amazing how the mind works, and I don't just mean with autism. The mind is so complex!Sabrina Steylinghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10502908654294596013noreply@blogger.com
